anti aging tips by lavleen kaur

Have you ever noticed a car parked outside your house for several days, left exposed to the harsh elements unattended in rain, dry weather, and open in the sun? Over time, you can witness the effects of aging and rust taking a toll on it.

Now, just like that car, our bodies also undergo a similar process of Aging if not cared for properly. If we neglect our well-being, we may find ourselves looking much older than our actual age, experiencing faster aging due to increased oxidation.

If not taken care of, we will look as if we are in the 40s in our 30s.

Today, I want to shed light on 3 common practices that unknowingly accelerate the rusting and oxidation of our bodies.

But fear not! I’ll also share how we can enhance and develop the antioxidants already present in our bodies to slow down the aging process. By incorporating these habits into our daily lives, we can effectively reset our aging process.

Antioxidants are not just limited to the inside of our bodies; they also exist outside. Antioxidants come in two types:

  • Endogenous antioxidants, which are naturally present within our body.
  • Exogenous antioxidants, which come from external sources.

Today, we’ll focus on the Endogenous ones, exploring their benefits and role in our well-being.

Cherish the Melatonin Hormone

1.Cherish the Melatonin Hormone:

Ensuring a healthy balance of Melatonin hormone in our body is of utmost importance. We are all familiar with the melatonin hormone, often referred to as the “Sleeping Hormone.”  Melatonin’s benefits go beyond just promoting restful sleep. It also plays a crucial role in combating the harmful effects of Hydrogen Peroxide, a primary culprit behind oxidation and the aging process.

Excessive inflammation leads to increased hydrogen peroxide, accelerating the aging process. Stress, overthinking, and disturbed sleep contribute to inflammation.

To counter this, it’s vital to allow Melatonin to be released regularly and at the right time.

We often associate melatonin with Nighttime and Sleep.

So, we think that Let’s switch off the lights and go to sleep, and melatonin will release.

Yes, that’s true.

However, Melatonin release is not confined to darkness; it’s also released during the day.

One type of melatonin is present in the blood, while another exists at the sub-cellular level, meaning inside cells. This release happens when we expose ourselves to nature during the daytime, like being surrounded by greenery and the blue sky.

We are constantly working in closed rooms and artificial lights, when we take a break from this and see and immerse ourselves more in nature and embrace natural light during the daytime, the greater the melatonin boost you’ll experience at night.

Why does this matter? Because higher melatonin levels translate to increased protection against hydrogen peroxide, the culprit behind oxidation and accelerated aging.

By prioritizing Proper Sleep and daily exposure to Nature’s light, you can effectively slow down the aging process. Making these practices a daily routine is essential.

One word of caution: Night shift workers and those neglecting sleep hygiene should beware, as this could lead to Premature aging.

To embrace a longer and healthier life, seize the power of melatonin by incorporating these habits into your daily life.

Embrace Consistent Exercise

2.Embrace Consistent Exercise:

There are two types of individuals when it comes to exercise: Occasional workout enthusiasts and Regular exercisers.

Occasional workouts Enthusiasts are like doing a high-intensity workout on Monday and then taking a break for 2-3 days, or skipping workouts due to injuries. However, this inconsistent approach affects the body’s ability to produce antioxidants.

On the other hand, those who engage in Regular exercise experience a continuous release of antioxidants.

When you exercise regularly, your muscles may experience small tears or cramps, indicating the need for antioxidant production to repair and heal the tissues.

The problem arises when you switch between workout routines and take long breaks, hindering the release of essential enzymes necessary for antioxidant production.

To ensure a steady release of antioxidants and reset the aging process, Consistency is key.

It doesn’t mean doing the same intense workout daily; rather, focusing on engaging in some form of exercise regularly. Mix it up, have high-intensity days, and follow them up with lighter workouts.

By adopting a Consistent Mode of exercise routine, you empower your body to release antioxidants continuously, promoting overall well-being and slowing down the aging process.

So, let’s prioritize Consistent Exercise and embark on a journey to a healthier, more youthful you!

3.Embrace the Power of Autophagy:

Many of us tend to increase the Frequency of our Meals when we adopt a healthy diet. We indulge in salads, fruits, and other healthy snacks throughout the day, unknowingly denying our bodies the necessary breaks it needs.

Imagine a road full of traffic; the damaged parts can’t be repaired until the traffic stops. Similarly, if we constantly eat, our bodies remain in a perpetual state of ongoing digestion process, leaving no time for repair and recovery.

Antioxidants are released during a state called Autophagy, where the body self-cleanses by getting rid of damaged cells and harmful bacteria. This process helps our immune system kill bad bacteria.

To promote Autophagy, we should take breaks between meals and create a Fasting Mode. It doesn’t mean STARVING yourself; rather, eat only when you feel genuinely hungry, not out of habit or convenience. Allow your body to rest and relax during these breaks, enabling the release of essential antioxidants that slow down aging and keep your body vibrant.

Taking your morning meal after early dinner only when you feel hungry and when your body demands food after a necessary break is crucial.

In Summer nowadays, when you may not feel as hungry due to increased pitta, two meals with enough water intake will suffice. Often, we mistake thirst for hunger, so staying hydrated is essential.

To witness amazing results, incorporate

  • Raw, watery salads,
  • Antioxidant-rich fruits,
  • Soaked nuts and seeds, and
  • Natural veggies into your diet.

Embrace these natural foods, and you’ll age gracefully, realizing that overeating only exhausts your body’s energy in constant digestion, leaving no time for repair and recovery.

By creating a Balance, giving your body the necessary Breaks, and practicing Mindful Eating, you can unlock the wonders of Autophagy and experience a more vibrant and youthful life.

Embrace this approach, and you’ll be amazed at the positive changes it brings to your overall well-being.

Key Takeaways for Graceful Aging:

These are the 3 essential tips to slow down aging and Age Gracefully.

  1. Melatonin: Ensure you prioritize quality sleep and avoid compromising on it. Adequate sleep leads to optimal melatonin release, reducing oxidation and preventing premature aging.
  2. Consistency in Exercise: Rather than occasional workouts, commit to a consistent exercise routine. Create a schedule for your workouts for each day of the week, track your progress, and allow the release of necessary antioxidants.
  3. Autophagy: Be mindful of your meal frequency to encourage autophagy. Introduce sufficient fasting windows to give your body the time it needs to rest, repair, and recover.

While Intermittent Fasting has gained popularity in recent times, our Indian culture has long emphasized a 12:12 eating pattern, which includes 12 hours of eating and 12 hours of fasting.

However, nowadays it’s essential to listen to your body’s hunger cues and eat only when genuinely hungry, avoiding unnecessary harm from overeating.

By following these steps consistently, you’ll witness tremendous changes in your body, leading to graceful aging.

Let’s embrace aging as a wonderful phenomenon and take charge of our well-being for a vibrant and fulfilling life.
